Before Rush, there was Slush.

Slush's 1973 debut brings raw Canadian power-trio attitude to a fictional lost album from Bud Bungalow.

Long before progressive rock filled arenas, three musicians from Northern Ontario were making something considerably heavier, stranger, and colder.

Slush came out of basement rehearsals, Legion halls, mining towns, and winters that seemed to last nine months. Their music was loud, complicated, and occasionally difficult to explain  - extended guitar passages, shifting rhythms, oversized drum fills, and lyrics about isolation, machinery, frozen lakes, and getting the hell out of town.

Their self-titled debut, Slush, was recorded at Bud Bungalow Recording Studio and pressed in remarkably small numbers. Those who heard it described a band that sounded years ahead of where Canadian rock was supposed to be.

It never charted. There was no second pressing. And somewhere along the way, Slush simply disappeared.

For decades, the record survived mostly as a rumour among collectors  - an obscure Northern Ontario pressing with an increasingly improbable reputation.

Today, Slush is considered one of the more peculiar artifacts to emerge from Canada's forgotten underground rock scene.
